Choosing between fixed data and unlimited plans in Azerbaijan
A trip to Azerbaijan can run on a fixed amount of data or on an unlimited allowance sold by the day. The fixed data plans sit on Azercell's 3G and 4G network. The daily unlimited plans are not tied to one named carrier.
Fixed data or unlimited
A fixed data plan suits a traveller who has a rough sense of how much data a trip needs, whether that is a short city break or a longer stay. If the data runs out before the trip does, a top-up restores it on the same eSIM, so the original size is a starting point rather than the final amount for the whole visit.
The unlimited plans work differently: each is sold for a set number of days, matched to how long the stay actually is. They come with a fair use policy, so once a daily amount is used, speed steps down for the rest of that day before returning to normal the next. They suit someone who would rather not track a data counter and prefers to pick the plan by length of stay instead.
Buying ahead of the flight
Validity on every plan begins the first time the eSIM connects to a network inside Azerbaijan, not at the moment of purchase and not at installation. That means the eSIM can be bought and installed well before departure, checked, and left ready, without losing any of the days or gigabytes attached to it. The clock only starts once the phone actually reaches Azerbaijan and connects.
Sharing the connection
Hotspot and tethering are available on every plan, fixed data and unlimited alike, so a single eSIM can share its connection with a laptop, tablet or a second phone during the trip.
Matching the plan to the trip
For a short stay, one of the smaller fixed data plans or a one or three day unlimited plan covers the visit without paying for days that will not be used, whether that is mostly maps and messaging or booking rides through an app such as Bolt. For a longer stay, or if you stream video or share the connection with a laptop, the larger data sizes or the longer unlimited options are built for the extra time, and a fixed data plan can be topped up if the trip runs past what was first bought. Either route stays on the same eSIM for the whole visit, so there is no need to reinstall anything partway through.
