eSIM data plans for Indonesia

Indonesia's plans come in two shapes: a fixed amount of gigabytes that lasts for a set number of days, or an unlimited allowance sold by the day. Which one fits a trip depends mostly on its length and how much data gets used along the way.

By the gigabyte

These plans run on Smartfren, Telkomsel or XL. A short trip with light use, messages, maps, the odd photo, sits comfortably in a smaller size. Longer stays or heavier use, video calls, navigation running most of the day, suit a larger one better. If the data runs out before the trip does, a top-up on the same eSIM restores it, so choosing a smaller size at the start is not a decision that has to hold for the whole stay.

By the day

Unlimited access is priced by the number of days you choose, on Ooredoo, Telkomsel or Tri. It suits travellers who would rather not track a data balance at all, or whose days involve a lot of streaming, video calls or uploads where a fixed volume would mean checking in on it often. Each unlimited plan carries a fair use policy: once a day's use passes a certain point, speed is reduced for the rest of that day, then resets with the next.

Buying ahead of the trip

Either plan type can be installed as soon as it is bought. The days of validity only start counting once the eSIM connects to a network inside Indonesia, so installing it before departure does not use up any part of the plan.

Sharing the connection

Hotspot and tethering work on every plan here, fixed data or unlimited, so one eSIM can cover a laptop or a second device alongside the phone it is installed on.
